The Original Ordinary Bitters Fundraiser
March 23, 2017 @ 6:00 pm
$5 Suggested Donation
The original members of the Ordinary Bitters have agreed to get back together for a special fundraising event including 2 sets of all the Ordinary Bitter music you used to love.
Here’s what they have to say about this special event:
“Last year I was trying to help a few migrant worker friends of mine from Mexico. They had asked me to help them purchase two airline tickets back to Mexico so they could return to their families for the holidays and until the season returns. I found them the cheapest flights I could but they routed through Toronto, Canada. A few weeks passed and my friends had heard rumors of a new immigration eTA law that was causing difficulties with travel through Canada. Apparently several of their amigos had been detained for days because of improper autherization. Once my buddies had learned about this they quickly came to me wanting to make sure this would not happen to them.
My first plan of action was to call Air Canada and to explain the situation and to get a refund. This was done in weeks before the flight. As polite as they could be they said that there was absolutely nothing they could do, and that I should call the consulate to make arrangements. My first attempt to call the consulate was impossible because you can only call the consulate from within Canada. Finally I was able to contact the consulate in NYC in hopes that someone could explain the new eTA laws and why people were being detained after being let on the plane in Charlotte. After a leaving a few voicemails and emails I learned that the consulate would not address eTA questions unless the application process was complete. Alas it was time for my friends to go, and without clear knowlege of what would happen to them when they crossed the Canadian border, they decided not to risk it and they would take the 4 day bus ride back to Durango. Both of my friends have large families and depend on this money to support their families through the year.
The Ordinary Bitters shows were more often times free to the anyone who wanted to listen. So for this special event I have enlisted the most talented giving band I have ever been apart of, The Original Ordinary Bitters. I am asking for your help of a minimum $5 donation in order to recoup the funds for my amigos’s travel expenses that were lost to Air Canada. We have been secretly practicing and will give you 2 amazing sets of Classic Bitters, in the place the band was born Wolf Hills Brewing Co. We look forward to rocking with you again! Thank You.
Any additional funds will be allocated to a suggested charity for rights of immigrant workers.”
